چکیده
Food habits and diet composition of Patagonian flounder Paralichthys patagonicus (Jordan, 1889) were studied on the basis stomach content analyses from 828 specimens (512 females, 304 males, 12 unsexed) collected during 16 commercial cruises between February 2009 April 2010 in Argentine-Uruguayan Coastal Ecosystem (34° S-41° S). A total 272 stomachs (32.9%) contained food (184 females 84 males), among which 20 prey taxa identified. The most important category was pelagic fish, primarily Argentine anchovy (Engraulis anchoita), followed by rough scad (Trachurus lathami). Evidence showed that consumed a higher wet weight compared to males. Results also suggested specialised over E. anchoita, across all sex size groups. estimated trophic level for population P. 4.16. This study suggests is tertiary piscivorous consumer web region, reveals changes consumption with previous studies.

Coastal Upwelling Drives Intertidal Assemblage Structure and Trophic Ecology
Similar environmental driving forces can produce similarity among geographically distant ecosystems. Coastal oceanic upwelling, for example, has been associated with elevated biomass and abundance patterns of certain functional groups, e.g., corticated macroalgae. In the upwelling system of Northern Chile, we examined measures of intertidal macrobenthic composition, structure and trophic ecolog...
متن کاملTrophic ecology of invasive Argentine ants in their native and introduced ranges.
Although the ecological effects of invasions often become obvious soon after introduced species become established, more gradual effects may take years to manifest and can thus require long-term data for quantification. We analyzed an 8-year record of stable isotope data on Argentine ants (Linepithema humile) from southern California to infer how the trophic position of this widespread invasive...
متن کاملOffshore spawning of the Argentine hake (Merluccius hubbsi) Patagonian stock
The spatial variation of the spawning shoals of M. hubbsi in Patagonia during its reproductive peak (January) between 2001 and 2008 was analyzed. In 2001 and 2004 spawning of hake in the north-patagonian area was concentrated inshore between 50 m and 80 m depths, in coincidence with a bottom thermal front (9° 14° C). Since 2005 an expansion of spawning into deeper waters (near the 100 m isobath...
متن کاملOntogenetic phase shifts in metabolism in a flounder Paralichthys olivaceus
Size-scaling metabolism is widely considered to be of significant importance in biology and ecology. Thus, allometric relationships between metabolic rate (VO2) and body mass (M), VO2 = a(i)Mb, have long been a topic of interest and speculation. It has been proposed that intraspecifically metabolic rate scales isometrically or near isometrically with body mass during the early life history in f...
متن کاملDietary ecology of the Portunus segnis (Forskal, 1775) in the coastal waters of Hormozgan Province, Iran
In this study, the feeding habits of blue swimming crab (Portunus segnis) in the Northeast Persian Gulf were investigated. A total of 722 specimens were collected using bottom trawl. The samples were transferred to the laboratory in order to further analysis after freezing. All individuals were dissected and their stomach was removed. The results showed the vacancy index of stomach (CV) was 34....
